Steps towards 'A Tolerant Kindergarten'
1. ESTABLISHMENT OF A PROFESSIONAL TEAM
The professional team directs all the activities performed in the kindergarten/school within the 'Say Hello to the World' project (hereinafter referred to as the "Project") and thereby obtaining the honourable title 'A Tolerant Kindergarten' / 'A Tolerant School'.
The Principal of the kindergarten/school selects the teachers for whom he/she believes have enough expertise to perform this pre-designed project.
The structure of a professional team:
- the representative of teachers
- the representative of teacher assistants
- other employees (Principal, etc.)
- the representatives of the FINI zavod Radeče (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute") Kaja Kink and Andreja Majnar (monitor and/or direct a professional team towards successful implementation of the Project, which leads towards obtaining the honourable title of 'A Tolerant Kindergarten' / 'A Tolerant School')
2. WORK PLAN
The professional team sets prior activities that will be performed in a particular kindergarten/school, which are based on observations, arrangements and planning. The topics for the activities will be determined in advance by the Institute and each kindergarten/school will be able to choose their way of presentation which will require a great deal of creativity and above all listening to child's wishes and suggestions.
We have prepared a short-term goals (Five Fingers) for each activity, which will be achieved during the execution of the programme. A concern for social justice is our prime long-term aim.
3. THE REALIZATION OF THE VIDEO CALLS
The Kindergarten/School that will participate in the Project, will work according to pre-prepared topics (Five Fngers), which are carefully planned for all the video calls by the professional team and based on observations and arrangements. They will be performed together with the children.
4. THE EVALUATION OF THE SPECIFIC STEPS
Monitoring and evaluation of short-term goals (Five Fingers) allows regular checking, development and suggestions of new creative solutions.
The professional team will write an evaluation at the end of every "Finger". This evaluation must show all the expected results of the video calls that were pre-prepared by the Institute (Five Fingers).
5. WORKING WITH THE CURRICULUM
Working with the curriculum presents a professional basis for work in all kindergartens/schools and is important for achieving an appropriate level of quality preschool education as well as for implementation of the Project (so-called implementation of the curriculum).
The greater attention should be given to:
- Consideration of the group differences (gender, social and cultural background, the global
opinion, etc.) and creating conditions for expressing themselves.
- Consideration of the principle of diversity and multiculturalism on a level of the chosen content, activities and materials to enable children to experience the diversity of the world (things, people, cultures).
6. INFORMING AND COOPERATION WITH THE MEDIA
Information and examples of good practice will take place between kindergartens/schools in Slovenia and other countries from Europe and elsewhere. The kindergartens/schools will be informing the media about its work on the Project, mainly to aware the population that tolerance is a value that can enrich our lives.
OBTAINING TE HONOURABLE TITLE 'A TOLERANT KINDERGARTEN' / 'A TOLERANT SCHOOL'
By joining the Project, the kindergartens/schools oblige to participate in designing and building 'A Tolerant Kindergarten'/'A Tolerant School' as a way of living.
They strive for raising multicultural awareness, acceptance of all traditions and influencing on a wider population, which should help to maintain a more tolerant environment.
The title 'A Tolerant Kindergarten'/'A Tolerant School' reflects acceptance that people are different, since we must show the children that we are not the same, but we are nevertheless equal.
Every kindergarten/school that accomplishes all 6 steps and shows significant improvement of relationships will obtain the International Certificate of 'A Tolerant Kindergarten'/'A Tolerant School'.
