The Say Hello to the World Picture Book was created on the initiative of the creators of the international ‘Say Hello to the World’ project, which is based on the integration of the children in educational units around the world. The main character of the book is Enia, a little girl with a big heart, which takes us on a journey that begins with herself and then through her friends, extends to the whole world. Enia encourages children to discover their own identity and learn about their culture, to make new friends all around the world and to learn about their ways of living. Therefore, she raises a cross-cultural awareness and with small steps teaches the children to be tolerant and to accept the diversity, and at the same time to search for values and respect for themselves and others.

This Picture Book is special because it is “written” in symbols  and it is suitable for children from 9 months old. Instead of sentences, we inserted symbols (pictograms), which guide the reader to a particular objective and at the same time they leave the freedom of choice of the words. In this way, the reader can be anyone, regardless of one’s ability to read or the language of communication. We added a picture-glossary of symbols in fourteen world languages (Slovenian, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Croatian, Slovak, Swedish, Norwegian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian) at the end of the book, which should be used merely as a guide, not as a rule.

Every part of the illustration has been carefully selected and it opens up many topics for discussion between a child and an adult or between children themselves. Illustrations encourage children to think about themselves and about everything that surrounds them. They are opening children’s eyes and broaden their horizons, teaching the children that they share the world with many people, which perhaps look different or have different customs, but the heart of them all is joyful when it grows and it hurts when it is empty.
